Get Your Home Ready For Summer

Hopefully you've done your spring cleaning already, and while it may not arrive for a few more weeks, there are several things you should do now to prepare your home for the summer weather.

1. HVAC Tune Up.

Don't wait until the summer heat ramps up to find out your air conditioning isn't up to the task of cooling down your home. When the heat spikes, finding someone to check your system will be more difficult. Get ahead of the rush and have your system tuned up BEFORE you really need it. While you are waiting for the check up, take a look at your filter and change it if you haven't for awhile.

2. Spray for pests.

Spiders and other bugs come inside to escape the cold winter temperatures, but with the warmer weather, they will come inside looking for food. Spray now to keep them out and save yourself an unpleasant surprise in the future.

3. Check your roof.

Winter weather can be rough on your roof. Now is a good time to climb up and take a look for weathered and missing shingles. A few minutes now can save a lot of hassle and expense from potential water leaks in the future.

4. Entrance Doors.

Fixing or tuning up your air conditioning is important, but keeping the cold air in and hot air out is a critical part of a well-functioning HVAC system. Check the weather stripping around your doors and replace any cracked or worn sections. You should also check the caulk around your windows for the same reason. While your at it, why not spruce up your front door with a coat of paint. Pick a bright color to add some extra character to the facade of your home.

5. Change the direction of your ceiling fan.

Did you even know your ceiling fan spun both directions? During the warmer summer months, to help circulate the air more efficiently, your ceiling fan should spin counter-clockwise (just don't forget to switch it back in the fall to circulate the heat better).
